This Empty Chair is an exhibition and physical reminder of the plight of writers currently suffering unjust imprisonment as a result of attempts to silence their critical voices; writers from across the globe who have been denied their basic human right to freedom of expression. The exhibition is in recognition of the 35th anniversary of the Day of the Imprisoned Writer, an International event observed annually on 15 November. The centerpiece of this exhibition is five empty chairs and five empty books, each symbolising a writer currently imprisoned including Mahvash Sabet (Iran), Eaten Fish (Australia), Liu Xiaobo (China), Azimjon Askarov (Kyrgyzstan) and Behrouz Bocchani (Australia). Each of the selected writers is from a different part of the world, and each case represents circumstances of repression. This Empty Chair also serves to commemorate all writers killed since the previous year's Day of the Imprisoned Writer. In 2015, 34 writers from around the world were killed in circumstances directly related to their writings....Accommodation Sunshine Coast welcomes This Empty Chair - Footscray Town Hall, the ideal Footscray VIC Holiday outlet for all the family to enjoy.
